Southern Company Multicultural Lounge

The Southern Company Multicultural Lounge aims to create an open and reservable lounge for the Georgia Tech Community while supporting the various programs of student organizations and campus programs. This customizable space provides a relaxed setting for studying and events. It is also located close to the Walter G. Ehmer (Atlantic) Theater and can be utilized for receptions following performances, speakers, or movie events happening in the Walter G. Ehmer Theater.

Lounge General Use Guidelines
  • The Southern Company Multicultural Lounge is designated as a Special Use Space and adheres to the procedures and guidelines set for such spaces in the Student and Campus Event Centers' reservable areas. This includes requirements such as reserving the space through GT Events at least 3 weeks before the event and not using it for recurring meetings.
  • The capacity of the lounge is 50 seated.
  • Resources available:
    • Kitchenette (Sink, catering fridge, counterspace)
    • A/V equipment available, additional equipment can be requested
    • Up to 3 additional 6 ft tables for catering can be requested
Hours of Access and Staff

Staffed Hours  

Sunday-Saturday: 10am-9pm

Groups are responsible for restoring the lounge to its original condition upon the conclusion of their event. Failure to restore the lounge to its original condition can impact the future of the group’s reservation privileges. Cleaning fees will be assessed in collaboration with our custodial staff for any excessive clean-up requiring more cleaning than usual. 

Furniture

All property of the Southern Company Multicultural Lounge must remain within the lounge. Property includes tables, chairs, and audio/video equipment. General rule of thumb: if you or your group does not own the item in question, then it cannot be removed from the lounge.

Furniture such as tables and chairs may be used and rearranged within the lounge for meetings and events, but the furniture must be returned to its original location immediately following the meeting or event.

Furniture in the lounge includes: 2 long rectangular tables with 6 chairs each, 3 small tables with 2 chairs each, and 5 round tables with 4 chairs each

Lounge is reserved as is. Up to 3 additional 6-foot tables can be requested for reservations with catering orders. Please indicate if you will need additional tables in your request.

Display Cases

Located next to the Walter G. Ehmer Theater, the Southern Company Multicultural Programs Lounge Display Cases offer a unique opportunity for groups to acknowledge upcoming programming, resources, and holidays. 

Display Case Guidelines 

  • Display plans must highlight events hosted on Georgia Tech's campus.
  • The display must be active and available for viewing for a minimum of 1 week.
  • The maximum display time for each reservation is one (1) month. Display time may be extended if reservation books allow, and an extension is necessary.
  • Live plants are allowed with prior approval and time restrictions. 

Prohibited Items in the Display Cases: 

  • Food
  • Candles (Battery operated candles accepted)
  • Unapproved adhesive items
  • Live Animals 

Registered Student Organizations and GT Departments can reserve this space in GT Events in the "Display Case Request" template. 

Reserve Our Spaces

Georgia Tech RSOs, Departments, and external clients can reserve the Southern Company Multicultural Programs Lounge to host events, activities, and programs in the lounge. 

Reservation Rates

While the Southern Company Multicultural Lounge can be rented by RSOs and GT Departments for free, the pricing below is charged if groups are charging attendees or co-sponsoring with an off-campus organization.
